Soul Storage :: Forgotten Body, Exhibition + Performance at Chicago Moving Company, Oct-Dec 2018
In these self-portraits, the body becomes an art object, and a document of past, present and future. By breathing into areas wanting to be seen an energetic exchange happened with the camera as I connected body parts with more light, as the camera uses light to capture its subject, and through energetic awareness. It explored the possibility for more than just an image to be captured in light. The photographs became an acknowledgement of essence and a doorway through which one can see the unseen and tap into recorded energetic material living under the surface. In the US, where access to health systems is directly tied to profit, there is a co-dependency of our bodies on a system that is flawed. Our bodies, emotions, and even our pasts become a liability, creating subconscious resentment of the vessels that hold our consciousness. These photos sought to reclaim a lost intimacy with that consciousness.
